Treasure Buddies { Movie Review }

In Treasure Buddies, the Buddies Travel across the globe in an all new treasure hunting adventure. The talking canines meet some new animal friends (a young camel named Cami, and a monkey called Babi), solve puzzles and avoid traps as they explore a mysterious tomb in search of an ancient and powerful relic.

I'm going to be honest and say in my pre-mom days I would turn my nose up at this series of talking dog flicks. However, my four year old daughter LOVES these movies. She's watched a few of them at her grandmother's house (and talked about them incessantly), but this is the first time I have sat down and watched one with her. And you know what? It wasn't bad.

I liked the theme for this one, sort of a kids version of Indian Jones. They managed to sneak in some educational bits on camels, deserts, how an oasis comes to be, etc. Though I could have done without the scene where ButterBud decided to act like a camel and regurgitate his food. I really enjoyed Babi, the monkey character. The lip-syncing for the monkeys was amazing, and if truth be told just a wee bit creepy. The main bad guy (er, gal) is an emaciated hairless cat, which was again just a bit creepy.

As expected my daughter loved the movie. What surprised me is how much the 2 year old enjoyed it. She kept asking for more dogs. Both girls sat through the entire film, transfixed. The action and "suspense" was just the right level for them. As my four year old explained to me, "It was never too scary and I didn't close my eyes." Once the film was done she insisted I must find another "episode" for us to watch. She liked the monkey, she liked the tomb, and she loved the part where B-Dawg started to turn into a cat. Oh and she loved the post-film clip with B-Dawg, who she now claims is her favourite Buddy.

Overall, Treasure Buddies is a cute family movie. One I would recommend to anyone with little ones in the household. It's available as a 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack (Blu-ray + DVD), 1-Disc DVD and Standard Definition and High Definition Digital.

You can stay connected with the latest news and information on Treasure Buddies by visiting their Facebook page, or you can visit Disney's official Treasure Buddies website for games, video clips and more.

Plus Buddies Dog
Also Disney has a cool deal for a Plush Buddy Dog. Buy Treasure Buddies on DVD or Blu-Ray and inside you'll find a special code. Enter the Magic Code on the Disney Rewards site and you unlock a "special offer"; you can get a free Treasure Buddies plush doll. You just have to pay shipping and handling. You also have the option of paying extra to get a Buddies pet carrier. I ordered the plushie (sans carrier) and the grand total with shipping and taxes came to $3.38. I figure totally worth three bucks, as I know my daughter will be crazy about it. (The promo for the free plush dog ends March 31st).

Disclosure: I received a free copy of the video to review. As always, the opinions stated are my own and were not influenced by the free item received.
