{ Life } Secret Mommyhood Confessions - There Are No Photos
Last monday I gave G-Girl her first real hair cut. Monday also marked the first time that Baby-G took a bath in the "big bathtub". Where are the photos? That's what everyone asks. Why aren't there pictures on Facebook?
I know.
There should be pictures of G-Girl's hair right before the haircut. There should be a smiling shot of me, with scissors in hand, cutting her hair. Followed by a picture of the piles of hair on the kitchen floor.
There should be photos of Baby-G sitting in the tub, and sharing the bath with her big sister. There should be a shot of dad leaning over to scrub her hair. Followed by a picture of G-Girl handing her little sister a rubber ducky.
I have the sinking feeling that I should be taking pictures of all of this. Anything with the word "first" in front of it should be accompanied by a camera, right? I am just too busy living my life to properly document it. I was too busy actually giving my squirmy three year old a haircut to be worried about taking photos of it. During that bath, I was preoccupied with the thought that the baby would find a way to drown herself, and too busy fetching the extra face clothes and towels that I suddenly realized we needed, to worry about finding the camera.
I have some serious mommy guilt. Particularly when I see these other bloggers with all these perfect pictures of their kids. Where do you guys get all these pictures from? How do you find the time to take them? Perfect pictures, where your kids have clean faces, are in clean matching clothes, and you didn't forget to brush their hair.
When I do take a picture inevitably I load it into my computer and then notice just how messy and cluttered the background is. I notice that I didn't actually get all of the peanut butter off of my daughters face. I see just how bad those zebra pants look with that shirt. I realize that she took her hair barrettes out and her hair is hanging in her face. I notice that the baby got part of lunch not just on her onsie, but also in her hair.
Honestly, I have to thank blogging that I take as many photos as I do, which is still not many.... How do you guys do it? How do you keep up with capturing your kids lives? Do you have a camera in your cardigan pocket all day long? Or like me, are you constantly falling behind and feeling sort of guilty about it all?

Well, I do take a LOT of pictures, but they are NOT perfect! :) You'll find peanut butter faces, markers on their arms, a pile of dirty laundry in the background, and unmade beds in my pictures! :) LOL! I do however keep my camera phone on me just about at all times so I'm ready to snap a shot whenever it's needed! ;)

I do my best to rejoice in the memories we're making. even if they involve some messy faces.
One thing that drives me crazy is that every summer my kiddo gets a bit or a mark on her face, and then she decides that she needs to pick at it..... so every summer we get tonnes of pictures where baby has a big old scab on her face.
The thing is, maybe some people look at pictures and see the clutter or the mess, but most of us would just see the love.
As for taking photographs, I simply can't help it. It runs through my veins. I was born to document.
Many people have made cracks at me about how I'm not living my life because I'm so busy documenting it. It's not true. I very much enjoy being behind the lens. When I can get the shots that encompass the feelings that we had on those days, it becomes so much more than a memory.
But that doesn't mean that it's for everyone or that it's the only way to live, raise a family, or write a blog.
don't beat yourself up! :)
I too take to few photos, and oh, do I know the messy and cluttered background! Maybe the other moms are really good with Photoshop ...
I always wondered how parents manage to get the photo of baby's very first step - maybe because it's not really the FIRST (same with the bath and the haircut etc.) and it's quite ok, it's still fun and we love it ;)
I have two cameras that I try to keep at arms length (keyword there is "try"!) But I get the majority of my photos from my parents, who take over camera duties when they visit and snap away all day :)
As for my own photos? There's a reason why I don't post much... there's just too much mess in the back ground LOL! The best way to fix that? Close ups! hehe :P
Hah, I've been wondering about that too! How do some bloggers get such perfect photos. Mine are all like yours. Kid has stained clothing, dirty mouth, plus mess on the background. If I post something, I just crop the photos.
And I did take a lot of photos until my son turned one. Now it's a rare occasion. Feeling guilty about this one as well.
Can I just ask that you link up with my blog when doing confessions on Saturday? It's a great way to meet other bloggers too ;)
A couple times I checked and linky wasn't there, so I just stopped looking. Sorry Kim. I'll link it up right away.
